Advanced Occupational Therapist
Clinical Role Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Occupational Therapist to join the Inpatient AHP team at Brooklands Hospital. The post involves working as part of a multidisciplinary Therapy Team, providing Occupational Therapy input across Assessment and Treatment Services and Forensic Learning Disability Services.
The successful candidate will manage a specialist clinical caseload, delivering high-quality, person-centred and evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions. The role also provides an opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the Occupational Therapy service at Brooklands, supporting safe and effective clinical practice across the service.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage a specialist clinical caseload involving individuals with complex Occupational Therapy needs.
- Interpret referrals and undertake structured initial assessments to develop a clear understanding of patients’ presentation and background.
- Complete comprehensive assessments to identify functional abilities, barriers to participation and areas requiring therapeutic intervention.
- Develop and deliver individualised treatment approaches in collaboration with patients, carers, families and multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Deliver and adapt planned interventions across inpatient and community settings according to clinical need and service requirements.
- Provide clinical and managerial supervision to junior and support staff, promoting safe, effective and reflective practice.
- Support the professional development of team members through regular supervision and appropriate learning opportunities.
- Provide strategic leadership within the inpatient Occupational Therapy service, contributing to service planning and operational direction.
- Support the coordination of inpatient Occupational Therapy provision, including effective allocation of resources and oversight of daily service functions.
- Contribute to service improvement, audits, evaluations and governance activities.
- Support the development of innovative and evidence-based Occupational Therapy practice.
- Maintain effective communication with patients, carers, families, multidisciplinary teams and other stakeholders, adapting communication to meet individual needs.
- Maintain professional registration requirements, engage in appraisal and CPD, and ensure ongoing clinical competence.
About the Candidate
The successful candidate must have:
- A Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Current HCPC registration or eligibility for registration.
- Experience working within mental health, learning disability or forensic inpatient services.
- A strong understanding of person-centred and recovery-focused Occupational Therapy practice.
- Demonstrable experience managing a clinical caseload and delivering structured interventions.
- Experience of leadership and staff supervision.
- Strong multidisciplinary working and communication skills.
- Commitment to continuous professional development, evidence-based practice and service improvement.
